Mission Theology Course

innovative ~ interactive ~ inspiring

October 2019 has been declared by Pope Francis as an "Extraordinary Missionary Month." To celebrate, we are launching the first-ever interactive and collaborative conversation-based learning experience on the theology of mission in the Catholic Church.

Created by the National Office of the Pontifical Mission Societies, with the assistance of Boston College, this course is suitable for beginners or those with a background in faith formation.

A groundbreaking form of online education that:

  • invites learners to explore the roots of the Church to see how its missionary identity developed in and from the early Church, and guides to an understanding our part to play today.
  • offers a mission paradigm that moves beyond the four walls of any parish and sends Catholics out to meet the world faithfully in ongoing dialogue and service.

On completion, you will:

  • understand the basics of the Church's mission theology
  • earn a certificate upon completion from the Pontifical Missionary Union
  • "visit" missionaries in the field through conversations with the MISSIO USA ChatBot on Facebook Messenger
  • share their reflections and respond to the reflections of other participants from around the world
  • learn how to insert mission theology into your ministry and daily life
