Holy Rosary Hostel Borehole Project, Part 2

Project Leader:

Mission Office Archdiocese of St. Louis

The Sisters of the Sacred Heart run Holy Rosary Hostel for disadvantaged young women. The Sisters are in urgent need of a borehole to supply the hostel and the surrounding community constant clean and safe water. The Religious Community have committed to contributing 15% of the monthly maintenance costs of the borehole. The borehole will have a direct impact on the lives of the disadvantaged students, Religious and priests who are accommodated in the hostel as well as the Sisters' own Community nearby. There is a general water & sanitation crisis in Nairobi due to rural urban migration and refugee influx from South Sudan and Somalia. In these instances of lack of water, the students accommodated at the hostel and the communities around face an impossible choice of either certain death without water or possible death from illness. Additionally, easy access to clean water and sanitation increases time students are spent engaged in studies and reduces health costs.
