Animal Husbandry in Cameroon

Project Leader:

Sister Mewoulou Marie Thérèse Brigit

Nearly 7% of the adult population in Cameroon is affected by HIV/AIDS. The impact of this epidemic does not end with the adults. The number of children who have lost one or both parents to AIDS has increased from 13,000 orphans in 1995 to 304,000 in 2010. The number will rise to 350,000 by 2020. Hope Center in Yaounde, Cameroon, cares for orphans of the AIDs epidemic, and has done so since the late 1990’s. Children who have lost their caregivers due to AIDs are rejected by society and are often unable to attend school. Through a partnership with a school of agriculture nearby, Sister Marie is raising money so that 50 Hope Center children can learn the cultivation, management, and production of chickens for food and sale. Hope Center staff needs help building a chicken coop and raising the start-up costs.
