Katigondo Seminary, founded by the Missionaries of Africa, has been at its present location in 1911. It is the first seminary south of the Sahara in modern times. The first ordination took place in 1913, and since then 4,000 seminarians have studied in Katigondo. Katigondo Seminary Farm is a mixed farm where a number of farming practice, such crop farming, horticulture, poultry, piggery, cattle keeping are practiced. It operates on a land that covers 200 hectares. Farm labor is available from the local community and the farm employs 60 people. Nearby are schools, a minor seminary, and teachers’ training schools. Since the government of Uganda announced the lock down because of COVID-19, this has greatly affected many things on our farm and the community around especially those whose life and work depended on the seminary farm. The main challenge is that we are running out of operation funds to buy feeds and to pay salaries of our workers who totally depend on the farm. The funds will help to pay salaries of 30+ daily workers to maintain their ability to provide from their families; assist with public awareness of hand-washing and social distancing; provide food and protective gear to most vulnerable households.
