Reverend Ouseph M. Ulhannan, Msfs
The Republic of Chad is a land locked country situated in northern central Africa. It has an area of 1,284 000 sq. km. It is one of the poorest countries of the world, with 80% of the population living below the poverty line. Over 80 % of Chad’s population relies on subsistence farming and livestock raising for its livelihood. One of the main issues to be addressed in Chad is the lack of quality education. The chief environmental problem is increasing desertification after a decade marked by below-normal rainfall and periodic droughts. The non-availability of fresh water is also a major problem. Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales also known as Fransalians are running the boys’ home in Bero from 2009. We were able to give quality education and lodging to 40 boys every year. For many families it is difficult to find means to pay the school fees and the lodging of their children. The vicious cycle of poverty and despair can only be broken through the provision of affordable, quality education for the poor. The SFS boys’ home in Bero is addressing this need of the society. The direct project beneficiaries of this project are children aged 7-14 years. Project budget. • Food and provisions 380 x 40 = $15,200 • School fees 20 x 40 = $800• Health and security 30 x 40 = $1,200 • Deductive martials 50 x 40 =$2,000• Sports and games 10 x 40 = $400• Water and electricity 40 x 40 =$1,600• Uniform two sets 40 x 40 =$1,600 Total $22,800.00 $22,800.00/ 40 students = $570.00 per student per year. The Congregation of the Missionaries of Saint Francis des Sales is a religious Congregation of pontifical rights, which has no lucrative motives and works for the integral growth of the humanity especially through education and social work. MSFS was founded by Fr. Peter Mary Mermier at Annecy, France in 1838. MSFS have taken up recently a number of new missions in Arica in accordance with its charism of pioneering the frontier Missions. In 1996 Mgr. Michel Russo, Bishop of Doba extended an invitation to the MSFS to take up a missionary apostolate in Doba, Chad. The Congregation responded positively to this invitation. In 1999 For the last twenty years MSFS have been rendering service in Chad. Your contributions will help us to give quality education to the children of SFS boys’ home.
