Covid-19 Emergency Appeal (Phase II), Pakistan

Project Leader:

Reverend Moon Op Fr. Iftikhar

The Christian Community of St. Dominic Parish Bahawalpur are mostly daily wagers and brick kiln and cannot go out to work due to complete lock down by government. Due to the uncertain rains and weathers the brick making factories have been closed to date. These families manage food by daily earning and food insecurity is alarming. Expectant mothers of these families are more vulnerable because they do not have the resources to purchase medicine and nutrition for their good health. The country is facing the problems of shortage of food. Embargos on inter provincial movement and lock down in the country have badly disrupted supply of essential commodities and lifesaving drugs in the urban and rural centers across Punjab. During these times of distress, the poor Christian communities hope and knock the doors of the Church to help them in their times of need. A donation of $25 will buy a food package for a family of four.

Jobless Families Are Now Able to Eat! The community members of St. Dominic Parish Bahawalpur were extremely distraught when the coronavirus forced a government lockdown in Pakistan. The lockdown made it impossible for many of them to go to work and badly disrupted the distribution of food, essential commodities and life-saving drugs. These families had nowhere to turn except the church. The need was quickly overwhelming, so the parish turned to MISSIO for additional help. That’s when you all came together to raise just over $5,000 for the vulnerable and jobless in this community. Just a few weeks ago, MISSIO received messages of gratitude and photos of how the St. Dominic Parish Bahawalpur was able to serve the community through food and cash grants. This is the message they wanted us to share: “Please convey my love, gratitude, and prayers to all the benefactors / contributors and well-wishers that due to their true love and efforts we the Friars at St. Dominic Parish Bahawalpur Pakistan were able to stand with the poor, jobless families of the parish.” Click below to see more of the joyous response and view some photos!
