COVID -19 Prevention and Preparedness, E.P., Kenya

Project Leader:

Sister Loina Irene

The Rotu community is in the remotest part of East Pokot in Kenya. COVID – 19 has locked down towns and people have moved into these rural areas, making outbreaks possible. People are anxious to secure a roof, employment and food. Preparedness is urgent! Despite the effort by the government to create awareness to its people, the Rotu community, among other interior communities in East Pokot are left out, only having heard of the disease but are not aware of its effects or preventive measures. Incarnate Word Sisters in collaboration with the chief in the area are trying to create awareness and offer support. Your gift of $25 can help the Sisters reach out and give food packets, medical kits as well as education and pastoral care to many vulnerable households.

Dear friends, once again I say thank you for your support. Our project implementation is still on going. We are supposed to buy and fixed hand washing stations at various convergent places like a market place which we are yet to do. We have held it little bit due to dry spell being experienced in this area. These had washing containers were to be filled with water through the supervision of local leaders. It has been too dry such that getting water to fill in the containers was going to be very difficult. We only purchased handwashing containers for demonstration to help us in awareness creation which is ongoing. We expect with expected rains we will be able to complete this project successfully. We keep you updated. Thank you so much With much gratitude in my heart Sr Loina Irene Project coordinator

At the sisters compound, mothers sing with joy after awareness creation on COVID 19, its effect and preventive measures. Sr Jennifer, sr Anastasia and sr Loina held the meeting with mothers at Rotu and encouraged hygiene practices such as hard washing with soup and mask wearing when in crowded areas as the best measures for COVID. Pokot is very dry and there is hunger. In the pictures below are mothers receiving some food at the end of training and singing joyfully in expression of their gratitute.

Dear Missio team, I pass my regards once again for your support. We have began project implantation in East Pokot. Sorry for delay in reporting. Hear are some of the pictures of some hygiene promotion efforts by Incarnate Word sisters.
