Empowerment, training for women, Kenya

Project Leader:

Sister Mutangiriri Musondolya

The project is located in Ngaremara region of Isiolo County in Kenya. The area is semi-arid with soils that do not support agriculture hence most families are nomadic pastoralists. The area is also underdeveloped with little basic facilities such as schools and hospitals. The area community still has its traditional culture which heavily emancipates women. Women are viewed as a source of bridal wealth to their families, and they end up being married off at a young age and spend their entire lives subservient as wives. Since there is a lack of formal education in the area, they usually spend their entire lives as housewives. The project aims at training and educating adult women in the area by inculcating into them skills like in tailoring, bead-making, hairdressing among others that will assist them in setting their entrepreneurial ventures. The project aims at changing the mindsets of the women and broadening their horizons by equipping them with skills that can help them become less reliant of their husbands and families for financial stability. The projects also aim at educating the mothers on the importance of education so that they are motivated to educate their children. They will also be offered pastoral care.
