Solar Power System, Sacred Heart Shelter, Pakistan

Project Leader:

Reverend Sr. Josephine Emmanuel Op

Sacred Heart Shelter for girls, Sahiwal, comes under St. Mary’s Convent Higher Secondary School Sahiwal. The shelter is managed in order to provide education to orphans, neglected, and working young girls. Sacred Heart Shelter has been serving since 1967 and is managed by the Union of sisters "St. Catherine of Siena" of School Missionaries, Delegation of Pakistan. It is a Dominican Religious congregation of women based in 3 Catholic Dioceses of Pakistan - Diocese of Faisalabad, Diocese of Multan, and Archdiocese of Lahore. At present, there are 42 young girls living in boarding houses all from different backgrounds and with different awful and painful stories and life experiences. Dominican Sisters bring them under one roof and shelter of the church and care for their basic needs, providing free education, health care, and teaching with dignity, honor, and faith. The biggest problem at the moment is that the Sisters and young girls face monthly heavy electric city bills. Power failure has spanned 6-8 hours and sometimes for longer periods of time. This disrupts learning and extracurricular activities. The Shelter does not have any other means of power supply like generators, UPS, etc. Generators are available in the markets for rent, but the rates of the fuel have increased. On behalf of the young girls, I request Missio USA to pay sympathetic consideration to this appeal.
