Purified Water for Olancho in Honduras

After years of medical missions treating parasitic diseases, Carlos Najera realized that Olancho, Honduras, needs clean water to drink and cook. Drinking water is essential for human survival and is a condition for the implementation of all other human rights. Give $25 to help build a water purification system that provides clean water to a village of more than 100 families. The Olancho Ayuda Foundation has already installed 17 purification systems since 2015 and is looking to build 10 more. Carlos and his team meet for the first time with community members to give ownership of this important project to whom it belongs. After developing this relationship, members of the community receive training on the maintenance of the purification system. The residents of Olancho will invest what they can in the project. Some will help build the structure that houses the system. Some will put the pipe. Others will educate their children about the importance of safe drinking water. Due to this community-based approach, local families will have sustainable access to purified water and drastically reduce the rates of waterborne diseases within the village.
