Sagara town in the Diocese of Shimoga is surrounded by hundreds of villages that lie hidden in the deep forest where basic educational facilities, clean drinking water, adequate health care, transport and communications are almost absent. There are over 40% children who are school dropouts and child laborers in the villages around Sagar. The Sagar Parish has therefore undertaken a project for educating the poor and illiterate children and see that they are gainfully employed so that they are able to make a family and sustain it. The project is to support financially the fees of the schools, the provision of note books, the school uniforms, the transportation, support, skill training and imparting of moral and social values. We believe that education is an eye opener. It gives to the child an exposure to the outer world and then the child aspires to live a life accordingly.
