Hurricane Maria was the strongest storm to make landfall in a century. Winds blowing 250km per hour and mass flooding destroyed homes, churches, schools, hospitals, and infrastructure in this U.S. Territory. The hurricane devastated, crops, animals, sources of water and electricity and put thousands of people throughout the island at risk. “Although Puerto Rico has been demolished,” the Archbishop Archbishop of San Juan, Mgr. Roberto Gonzalez Nieves, said, “we are not completely destroyed. We will walk together helping each other to make the beauty of our country, its mountains, rivers, seas, and cities shine again." The Pontifical Mission Societies of Puerto Rico in collaboration with TPMS in the United States have been bringing hope to several areas of the island. Near 50 volunteers participated in a recent delivery of food, water, and other necessities to those most affected by Hurricane Maria.
