Charles Lwanga College of Education is a Jesuit-run vocational training college located in Zambia. The college serves students from rural areas of Chikuni Mission. The majority of students grew up on family farms, raised by their grandparents. Due to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, many have lost one or both parents. While they have a strong desire to learn, these students can barely afford the tuition and boarding fees. The Jesuits offer annual scholarships and receive some government funding. However, every year the number of students who need help surpasses the school’s ability to help. In 2018, the Jesuits funded $15,000 in scholarships – helping 23 students. With help from MISSIO, the Jesuits hope to educate more young men and women, providing them with technical skills to help them succeed and become leaders in their communities.
