Bring Clean Water to Nigerian Orphanage

Project Leader:

Sister Rita Ozoemenahi

Sister Rita and her Congregation, the Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus have become surrogate mothers to orphaned, neglected and rejected children in Nigeria. They began their outreach by helping children who made their homes on the streets. Gradually, they were able to build a home to provide a haven for those seeking shelter and hope. Today, about two children a day come seeking help The local community provides food for the Sisters and helps by making repairs to their building. Nonetheless, the biggest need these Sisters face is providing clean water for drinking and bathing.
The Congregation of the Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus (H.H.C.J) was founded by Mother Mary Charles Magdalen, a Religious Sister of Charity, who came to Nigeria in 1923 at the invitation Bishop Joseph Shanahan (CSSP) of the Vicariate of Southern Nigeria.
