Food for Andes Mountains Students

Project Leader:

Sister Sister M. Ancilla Maloney

The district of Layo where the Sacred Heart Alternative High School is located is 12,000 feet high in the Andes mountains. There are no high schools in the region for the students to attend. Their families are poor farmers or raise animals. They cannot afford to send food with their children to the school except for some potatoes. They leave home at 4:00 AM walk 4 or 5 hours from their homes to Layo each Thursday and stay overnight with families in town. They go to class Friday and then walk home again. Please help provide nutrition for these ambitious students.

Dear Anonymous, Your generosity is very much appreciated. Food is much less expensive than in the US-but if a student has no money-then no matter how expensive or cheap something is, he or she -or Sister Elizabeth can´t afford it. Your donation will go a long way towards fruits, vegetables and maybe meat or tuna fish. God bless you!!! Sister Ancilla

Dear Ynocencio, Thanks for your compassion! These young people have to walk from their mountain pueblos to get to the Alternative high school in Layo-so their desire is strong. Your donation will help them really focus on their studies and their dreams. God bless you.

Dear Ynocencio, That you so much for your compassion for young people who live on potatoes and bread every day-and are grateful for it. By now, because of their education, they probably know that`s not enough to keep them healthy, never mind the boring diet!! But your thoughtfulness and generosity will help vary their diet and with what is nutritious-fruit, vegetables and maybe some meat!! God bless you! Sister Ancilla
