The people of Derekabad in the Diocese of Multan, like the rest of the world is living with COVID – 19. They also have to cope with heavy monsoon rains, unemployment, food insecurity, and lack of healthcare. A survey conducted by the committees of St. Mary’s parish and the Oblate Delegation in Pakistan, determined that 284 families in 9 villages need adequate housing. The torrential rains destroyed mud houses. Families of up to 9 members use tents donated by the Church. Sleeping outdoors in the open is dangerous because of insects, and animals such as snakes can strike. These communities face all of the environmental elements from frigid temperatures to heavy rains, to scorching seasons. This project, led by Father Basharat Exupear, OMI, is to raise money to construct permanent homes for those affected. Financial support can help buy bricks, cement bags, windows, and doors.
