A modern hospital for impoverished Nigeria

Project Leader:

Reverend John Ugobueze

When in the 1980's, Fr. Ugobueze, founder of The Catholic League for the Poor of Nigeria, Inc., was sent to the United States for his graduate education, the desperate medical and mental health needs of his Nigerian parishioners and other nearby families were seared in his mind. Their situation today is more urgent than ever. Health facilities for poor Nigerians are outdated, understaffed or too expensive, and anyone with financial means actually leaves the country to receive care. Fr. Ugobueze is working hard to bring modern health care to them. Parishioners have donated enough seed money to get the project started. Now, leaders from business, law, medicine, psychiatry, and architectural design are donating their time to develop and raise funds to build the Catholic League Medical and Mental Health Hospital, a modern, Western-style hospital in Okoti-Odekpe – an impoverished area of Anambra, Nigeria, that has no hospitals or primary care centers. Please consider supporting this project. A gift of $25 can help continue the work.

This is the layout of the three buildiings, that will utilize the property that the local Chief and his Council donated to Fr. John and Archbishop OKeke for the hospital.

Here is a sample of plans drawn up so far. The main building will host three surgical theaters, pharmacy, and all key departments necessary for a general hospital. On the ground floor, visitors, patients and their families can join in Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

We truly appreciate the generous gifts to our project for a modern hospital for the poor in Southeast Nigeria. And we thank missio.org for allowing us to tell everyone about this project. We have posted a few more photos to demonstrate how our plans are progressing. Our modern general hospital will have a large Chapel where patients and their families will have the opportunity to pray alongside the local Catholic Eucharistic League in Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament inside the hospital. Such an ambitious project requires major funding. But, with supporters like you will be succeed. We can use more funds for the design costs, to try to lay the foundation within the year. Thank you. Fr. John Ugobueze.
