People’s lives have the power to change us. The members of St. Anthony's Parish in Renton, WA, were inspired to begin a Sister Parish Covenant with St. Anne d'Hyacynthe parish in Haiti following the death of their beloved parishioner, Molly Hightower. Molly died doing the thing she loved the most – making a difference in children's lives. This was her passion. Molly was volunteering in Haiti, working with abandoned and disabled children, during the 2010 earthquake. In the spirit of Molly’s passion, the St. Anthony & St. Anne Sister Parish Covenant has helped fund the construction of a brand-new school, and continues to help pay for teachers’ salaries. The new school educates about 160 students. Their work is not done. The new school sits across a deep valley from the church where a kitchen was built for an earlier temporary school. It is virtually impossible to bring food from that kitchen to the new school. The St. Anthony & St. Anne Sister Parish Covenant is raising money to build a kitchen facility and cistern for drinking water at the new school. St. Anthony's Parishioners have responded generously and support from their parish school is enthusiastic. All of us in the Missio community who are moved by people like Molly Hightower are invited to help make a difference in the lives of the children at St. Anne d’Hyacynthe too.
