Project Leader:
Reverend James Mendy
40% of Gambia’s population is under 14 years-old. Let me say that again. 40% of Gambia’s population is under 14 years-old. An increasing number of these children end up fending for themselves on the streets of Brikama. Father James Mendy has begun an outreach program to young homeless children at Resurrection Catholic Church in Brikama. Most of the children are pre-teens, but some are as young as four-years-old. Father Mendy is eager to build a home to keep these boys and girls safe, and provide for their basic needs. A generous benefactor has donated the land and 100 bags of cement to help Father Mendy get this project started. While it will cost $15,000 to complete the small home, Father Mendy would like to start construction as soon as possible and hopes to raise $5,000 to do so. Together we can help Father Mendy shelter the children coming to his parish seeking refuge.
