Surgery for 10 Children with Disabilities - Uganda

Project Leader:

Reverend Eugene(Fr.) Kalyango

St. Vincent Pallotti Transitory Nursing Home for People with Disabilities provides rehabilitation services to children with disabilities. There are many cases of osteomyelitis, club foot, angular bone deformities, cleft lip and palate. Children in need of such a surgery come from families that can’t meet the cost of consultations, X-rays, transportation to the hospital, ward stay and medicines. This project aims at providing surgery to 10 of the neediest children with these diagnoses. A donation of $20 covers the cost of an initial consultation. $10 covers the cost of an X-ray.

Babirye Agnes: Babirye Agnes is 2 years and 8 months old from Ndegeya village, Ssaza Parish. She was born with congenital abnormalities of the feet. Her condition could only be corrected through surgery. However her mother, a peasant farmer could not foot the surgery cost. Thanks to our benefactors at MISSIO for it is because of your kind support that Agnes was able to be provided with surgery.

Sseruwooza Huzairu: Sseruwooza Huzayiru is 14 years old. He comes from Kasambya village, Kyamulibwa Parish. As a baby, Huzairu suffered from Hydrocephalus. Fortunately this was treated in Mbale Hospital where he was admitted for 3 years. However in addition to Hydrocephalus, Huzairu also had a deformity of an extended knee of his right leg and according to Doctors, this could only be corrected through surgery. He was taken to CoRSU and was recommended for corrective osteotomy to fix his right femur. He was provided with internal fixators, physiotherapy and crutches. He is now doing better. Thank you MISSIO Team.
