Project Leader:
Reverend Joseph Domfe
Father Joseph Domfe, SMA seeks to expand Sacred Heart parish school to meet increasing enrollment. The school opened in 2016 with just five preschoolers. Today, there are 65 students and more enroll each year.Plans are underway to build a second floor for additional classrooms and to renovate the first floor to include a dedicated kitchen and larger restroom. Right now, all cooking is down outside and there is only one toilet for students and staff. Father Joseph has already received enthusiastic support for his project from the parishioners of St. Jude Parish in the West Region of the Archdiocese of Boston. For the past 15 years, Father Joseph has spent his summer months at St. Jude's providing support for various ministries. In fact, Sheila King, who teaches Religious Education at St. Jude’s encouraged Father Joseph to post his project on MISSIO, hoping to help him reach his total goal of raising $100,000. The children who attend Sacred Heart parish school receive a quality education and a daily meal made from corn and plantains grown on parish land. For some children, this meal is the only meal of the day. The Franciscan Missionaries of Mary staff the school and provide the stipends for teachers. Sacred Heart parish school provides children and their families hope for the future – it is a haven and place where all in the parish can come to learn more about the Catholic faith.
