Help Build an Island Chapel

Project Leader:

Brother Gordon Smith

The Village of Sawaru in the Lokia Rewa Delta of Fiji consists of about 20 Catholic families. Residents are hoping to build a community hall and chapel so that they may gather for Mass, Religious Education instruction and community celebrations. Brother Gordon hopes that the center will also offer a safe place for young people to gather. Lastly, as this is a flood-prone area, the community intends to build this structure so that it can serve as an emergency shelter. So far, residents have contributed labor and supplies for a cement block foundation.

in response to the global spread of the virus and advice from the WHO, the Fijian Government has heightened its level of preparedness in anticipation of COVID19 i. Fijians must join the rest of the world in practising what is known as “social distancing”. Basically, it means limiting contact –– especially in groups –– as much as possible to prevent person-to-person transmission of the disease. ALL VILLAGE WORK ON THE CHURCH AND HALL IS ON HOLD.....Please pray for us and pray for one another thank you for your donation - GOD BLESS

BULA ( hello in Fijian) Thank you so much for all your contribution to the project and the gift of giving. God bless you for your contribution and love to the people of this community on the Island of Fiji. Money donated goes towards Timber beams for the roofing, Roofing Iron, cement blocks, cement bags and steel pipes for reinforcement between the cement blocks. The community suffers from flooding because it's beside the largest river and it's a Delta area. So the church and hall will have to build 8 feet above the ground to prevent it from flooding inside the church/hall. Thank you again for your Love and Support - please pray for us always. VINAKA ( thank you in Fijian)
